Prom. Juniors and Seniors. There are only a few school days left to pay your Junior Dues ($80 cash only.) As you know, this allows you entrance into Prom BOTH your Junior and Senior years. If your date is a freshman, sophomore, or non-PRHS student you will need to purchase a Date Ticket for $35 either before or after school in E107, A201 or C202. Already paid your Junior Dues? If you paid your dues last year or earlier this year, you need to let us know that you are planning on attending the Prom. Come by Room E107. A102, or C202 to place a reservation (all of you who paid for Prom in the last month and filled out a green form - or paid for admission at the Fashion Show - do NOT need to come by again.) Admission Wristbands will be passed out April 17 in Junior PRIDE’s and at the Senior Picnic. This wristband is your "ticket in the door."

Prom preparation. Junior Cabinet members. We are meeting every Wednesday until Prom in Room A102. Don't miss out on all the fun and prom preparation taking place each week!

Peachtree Ridge Playhouse presents Manuscript by Paul Grellong. This is a special production in conjunction with the Red Clay Performing Arts Center in downtown Duluth. Peachtree Ridge students Anna Pugel, Lee Romaniw and Brad Coggin will perform the play at the Red Clay theatre in downtown Duluth on March 26, 27, 28 at 8 PM and again on April 3 and 4 at 8 PM and April 5 at 2 PM. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased by calling 678-407-0772 or order on-line at https://www.redclaytheateronline.com/Event-Info.18.0.html?&tx_calendar_pi1[f1]=39&cHash=fc6d46790e. Because this is a joint venture with a professional theatre company, there will be no complimentary tickets for faculty or students. We hope you will still come out to support our students. Manuscript is a dark tale centered on three college students home for Christmas break. They stumble upon an unpublished manuscript that will make one of them famous. The only question is which one. Manuscript is rated PG-13 and intended for a high school audience. Red Clay Theatre is located in downtown Duluth at 3116 Main Street, Duluth, GA 30096.

Key Club. Key Club will be sponsoring a screening of Invisible Children here at Peachtree Ridge. It will be Monday, March 30th at 4:30 in the Performing Arts Center. Plus, it's free and open to the public! Invisible Children is a tremendously popular documentary about child soldiers in Africa (mainly Northern Uganda). It's quite powerful and a bit unsettling! However, it gives some incredible ideas to enable youth in our community and exposes our students to the idea that they truly can make a difference. Through the work of our own Sunni Zylstra (PRHS student), people from the Invisible Children organization will be here at PRHS to show the documentary, answer questions, try to boost involvement throughout our community, and sell items to help raise money to provide these child soldiers with a better life.

SPORTS

Basketball honors. Please congratulate Khalid Mutakabbir for being named to the GACA North - South All-Star game. He competed in the game Sunday, March 22 in Savannah. He competed with the best basketball players in the state and represented our school very well. He is only the second player in school history to be named to this team. Khalid and D.J. Jones have both been named to the Gwinnett County All-Star game. The game will be played on April 1 at Grayson High School at 8:00 pm. Let's all go out and support these young men. C.J. Blackwell and Khalid have each been named first team All County and first team All Region 7AAAAA. We are one of just a few schools with 2 players on the first team. Congratulations to these young men.

Varsity Girls' Tennis. Please congratulate the Varsity girls on their domination of North Forsyth. Congratulate our freshman phenom Jessica Northcutt, super sophomore Jean Chung and the sizzling seniors Liz Bailey, Shelby Hassberger, Vyjoo Lakshimpathy, Alex Kukler and Katie Poncsak!!

JV Girls' Tennis. The girls annihilated the Wildcats 5-0. Once again, we came out hungry for victory. The Wildcats never had a chance to get into the match and were defeated by the athletic prowess and stamina of their opponents. Please congratulate the following girls on their victory:
1 Singles: Rachel Anderson
2 Singles: Kristen Chitty
3 Singles: Forfeit
1 Doubles: Chandler Frisbie/Jordan Sapp
2 Doubles: Kia Quinlan/Lina Digilova
The Lions also stomped on Oconee County, winning 5-0 and yielding an overall record of 6-1. As the sky grew dark in anticipation of a stormy match, Oconee County proved to be no match for our girls. Our team has lost only 8 games out of a total of 60 played. Please congratulate the following girls on their win:
1 Singles, Sushmitha R.
2 Singles, Rachel Anderson
3 Singles, Kristen Chitty
1 Doubles, Chandler Frisbie/Jordan Sapp
2 Doubles, Maddie Silva/Miranda Andersson
Exhibition, Lina Digilova/Kia Quinlan
Way to go girls!

JV Boys' Tennis. JV Boys tennis dominated Duluth! Winning 5-0 were:

2 Singles: Tyler Perini
3 Singles: Michael Crooks
1 Doubles: Chris Copeland/David Wang
2 Doubles: Bobby Bailey/Paul Zadje.
We then traveled to Oconee County for the 4:00 pm match. The boys had a tough match, but we pulled off the win, 3-2! Our JV boys played 4 of their Varsity boys and 3 JV boys. Winning both sets 6-4, 6-0, at 1 singles was James Kim. Winning in 3 sets at 3 singles, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, was Tyler Perini. And winning at 1 doubles in 2 sets, 6-3, 7-5, was Edward Lee and Chandler Burchfield. Austin Penman played 2 singles and lost in both sets. The boys 2 doubles, Bobby Bailey and David Wang, lost in the third set, 3-7.The boys record this season is 6-1

Varsity Boys' Golf. The boys’ golf team is now 4 for 4. This past week in the North GA Invitational, Seth Reeves captured low medalist and led the team to a 4 stroke victory on Tuesday and Thursday. The boys' team then followed that victory with a 1 stroke win on Saturday at the Warrior Invitational. The team was led by low medalist Ben Greene with Jack Walsh as the runner up. On Monday, the boys won their matchup against Chattahoochee 151-176. Low scores for the boys were Seth Reeves with a 37, and Andy Privateer, Jack Walsh, and Ben Greene scoring a 38. We have 2 more tournaments to go in the regular season before we advance to the Region tournament.

Girls' Golf. Seven of our girls came together on a beautiful Saturday at the Brookwood Invitational at Summit Chase Golf Course. Maria Carter and Haley Stonikas brought in low scores of 88 and 91 to take 4th place. Ana Carter, Melissa Little, Kate Winfrey, Hannah Kyung, and Tiara Harris rounded out the field for Peachtree Ridge. On Monday, we had another beautiful day for golf at Sugarloaf as Dr. Tashlein and Coach Arnold came out to watch the girls defeat Chattahoochee High School 96-99. Once again, sisters Maria Carter and Ana Carter brought in low scores. On Tuesday, the Varsity girls took on Mill Creek and, although we had three girls scoring in the forties, they were not low enough to beat out a seasoned Mill Creek team. Maria Carter was low scorer from Peachtree Ridge with a 43, sister Ana came in with a 46, and Haley Stonikas a 49. The Varsity girls head to Dalton this weekend.

Varsity Girls' Soccer. The girls pulled out their 11th win with a 1-0 victory over the Cougars despite missing two starters due to injury. The girls basically assured themselves of a state play-off position with a win versus Duluth 3-1 in which Christine Watts had the hat trick. The entire defensive unit once again played well with the exception of a late concentration effort in which they lost focus and gave away a free kick and subsequent goal late in the game, losing what would have been their 9th shutout of the year. Job well done and congrats on returning to the play-offs! They remain undefeated in the region and have a chance at a region championship and a #1 seed for the play-offs.

Varsity Boys' Soccer. For the record breaking fifth time this year the varsity boys soccer team went to overtime and PK's this past Friday versus the Cougars from Chattahoochee and for the fourth time emerged victorious with the PK win, 4-2. Against Duluth, the boys gave away an early goal but settled down and put on a very tenacious effort for the remainder of the game and came away victorious with a hard fought and well deserved win 2-1 over a very stubborn and motivated Duluth squad. Goals were scored by Chris Cook assisted by Adam Schraudenbach and George Green assisted by Bayan Vojdani. The boys remain on a must win course for their remaining three region games to even have a chance to qualify for state. Both teams face a tough test this Friday away at Norcross. Please come out and support us!

Ice Hockey. The PRHS Ice Lions made it to the GSHL AA Championship game before falling to the defending state champion Brookwood Broncos 5-1 Monday night in Duluth. Before a standing room only crowd, the Lions scored first but it proved to be mostly Brookwood the rest of the night. Freshman Josh Berkman scored on a blast from the right side just 22 seconds into the game off a pass from Stephen Musso but Brookwood answered quickly to even the score at 1. Brookwood then scored 2 goals in the second period and 2 more in the 3rd, the last an empty netter, to lock up their second title in as many years. Goaltender Wesley Edenfield fought valiantly and kept the Lions close but the regular season champions could not get on track offensively and the title that was so close slipped through their grasp. It was a tough ending for seniors Stephen Musso, Nick Cittadino, Zach Tomlinson, Chris Little and Josh Johannson who finished the game in the nets for the Lions. These seniors experienced a state championship, a runner up finish and a semi final appearance in their illustrious careers. The Lions finished the regular season 11-2-1 and the playoffs at 3-2 for an overall record of 14-4-1. Way to go Ice Lions!

Ready for senior week 2009? It is tradition to do locker decorations for seniors. Your child does not have to have a locker to participate. We will have a designated area for them to hang their locker strip. The locker strip is a poster board piece on which you create a collage about your child. If you would like to get a head start, your child can pick up a locker strip during pride or after school in room B106 starting Monday, March 2, 2009. It is recommended that you laminate the locker strip before hanging it. We will provide the tape for all hanging purposes. We will be available to assist with the hanging process Monday, April 13, 2009. Please have the locker strip done when you arrive!

Senior Picnic. For the senior picnic, we are looking for door prizes to give away. Examples of items are gift cards for the movies, dinner, gas, Target, Walmart, Brusters, Dairy Queen, Sonic, etc. We’re also looking for items that our grads might need after graduation. Last year we had some one donate flip flops for the girls. Please consider a small donation. Please send all donations to room B106 c/o Mrs. Bombard. We appreciate your support in making senior week 2009 a huge success!! Also, if you would like to volunteer for senior week 2009 and have not e-mailed Mrs. Bombard, please do so ASAP! Her e-mail is Lynne_bombard@gwinnett.k12.ga.us.
